Knowledge is power‘.

but what knowledge exactly?

No Hierarchy in Equality

Inspired after attending the NEU LGBT+ Educators Conference 2019, I have created this website as a place to share work around inclusion and striving for equality for all regardless of race, gender, sexuality, age, faith, class or any other identity which is currently oppressed. I am also inspired by work around decolonising the curriculum.

As a black, gay woman who grew up on a council estate and was the first and so far only person in her family to study at university, I feel it is of great importance that those of us who are working towards delivering a more inclusive curriculum, share what we are doing so that other children and young people may benefit from it too. So that the curriculum is fit for purpose, relevant and represents all of the children who we teach and their families.

I love languages and teaching MFL. However, my greatest driver to teach is around social justice. So, after attending the conference, reflecting on intersectionality, I realised that I have already been working on inclusion in MFL curriculum through developing global learning elements and have been considering the impact of greater representation in the curriculum on students. As a teacher in a state school, with limited time for planning, I am making changes in small steps, making what I teach more inclusive.
